Rosa Banksiae: a timeless, nearly thornless climbing rose
The Rosa Banksiae, also known as the Banksia rose, is a historic and beloved climbing rose that originates from China. Since the 18th century, this rose has been known for its elegant flowers and impressive growth strength. With its nearly thornless branches and abundant bloom, the Banksia rose brings charm and ease to any garden.
Unique bloom and features
- Colour: Soft white to pale yellow, with masses of small, double flowers
- Scent: Mild and sweet, subtle yet special
- Blooming time: Blooms once in spring, often before the leaves fully appear
- Thornless: Ideal for easy care and safe pruning
Growth and care The Banksia rose is a strong grower and can reach a height of 6 to 10 metres. This makes it perfect for covering pergolas, walls, or fences. It grows best in a sunny spot with well-drained soil.
- Drought tolerance: Well resistant to drought, but provide extra water during prolonged dry spells
- Pruning: Prune after flowering to remove old and dead branches and encourage new growth
- Soil type: Lightly moist, well-drained soil
Use in the garden The Rosa Banksiae offers endless possibilities for garden design:
- Pergolas and fences: Cover vertical structures with its lush growth
- Companion plants: Combine with clematis or other climbing plants for a colourful mix
- Garden feature: Its abundant bloom makes it a striking centrepiece in any garden
Why choose Rosa Banksiae? With its historic charm, low-maintenance qualities, and spectacular bloom, the Rosa Banksiae is a favourite among garden lovers. Although it blooms only once a year, the lavish flowering more than makes up for it.

Roses in pots
A potted rose is a rose plant that has already been grown in a pot and is delivered with a well-developed root system. These roses are ready to be planted directly in the garden or in a larger pot, without having to wait for root growth. This makes the potted rose ideal for planting throughout the year, especially from May through October.
Roses with bare roots
Bare-root roses – also called root roses – are rose plants delivered without a pot or soil. These roses are dormant and can be planted directly in open ground. The best time to plant a root rose is in autumn or early spring, when the soil is still moist and the temperature mild.
At Belle Epoque we supply bare-root roses from November through April. Thanks to the well-developed root system and the right planting conditions, these roses grow vigorously into healthy and bloom-rich bushes or climbing roses.
Products are shipped directly from the nursery every Monday and Wednesday. By delivering only twice a week, we reduce logistical emissions and optimise our processes. This benefits both the quality of our products and the climate.
